Chicken drumsticks
Cheap, juicy and almost impossible to overcook.
£6.95 per kg
Drumsticks are dark meat, which means more flavour and far more forgiveness than breast. Roast, barbecue or bake them, and take them further than you would a breast — they only improve as the meat starts to pull from the bone. Score them and marinate for a couple of hours if you have time. A favourite with children.
200°C for 35–40 min, turning once. Score to the bone first if marinating. Take them past 75°C — dark meat only improves.
3-4 per person as a main, 1–2 as part of a barbecue spread.
