D.T.Law Quality Butchers

Where it started
In 1992, Darren bought a butcher's shop on Blackburn Road in Haslingden. It was just him, one counter and a reputation to build, one customer at a time. He built it the only way he knew: the best meat he could find, cut properly, sold by someone who knew your name.

Growing up behind the counter
His son Greg started at four years old, carrying turkeys up and down the cellar steps at Christmas and helping serve customers who still remind him of it today. Year by year he learned the trade from the ground up, from the block to the counter and everything in between, until he was ready to take the business on. Today Greg runs D.T.Law, and his dad has stepped back to "semi" retirement. (He still has opinions.)

From one shop to two
As the business grew, so did the building. We took over the shop next door and became a double-fronted shop, and with the extra space we became more than a butcher. We now bake all our own pies, run a full deli counter and make fresh sandwiches on site every day. What started as a one-man shop now employs a team of over 15 people, and we couldn't do any of it without them. They're hard-working, they know their stuff, and they're the reason people keep coming back.

Where our meat comes from
We know exactly where our meat comes from, because it matters. Most of our beef and lamb comes from a local farmer, with any top-ups always British. Our pork comes from a plant in Preston that buys from local auctions, and our chicken is sourced from Lincolnshire. Good meat starts long before it reaches our counter.

What we're known for
Ask around the valley and you'll hear the same things: our chunky steak pies, our peppered chicken sandwiches and wraps, and a counter packed with top-quality meat, ready meals and easy-cook options for busy weeknights. And then there's the pork pie, judged Best Pork Pie in Lancashire by the Lancashire Pork Pie Appreciation Society.

Part of the valley
We're a Haslingden business through and through. We support local clubs, schools and charities with raffle vouchers and donations whenever we can. Our pies and meats also turn up all over Rossendale: at market stalls, chippies, pubs, cafés and wedding caterers who trust us to supply them.
